What matters now

  • Q1 FY 2026-27 covers April–June.
  • The published real GDP growth estimate is 7.8% at constant 2022-23 prices.
  • Nominal GDP at current prices is a separate measure in the same release.

MoSPI’s 31 August release reports 7.8% real GDP growth for the first quarter of FY 2026-27, covering April through June. This is the current official estimate at constant 2022-23 prices. It is not a forecast or a conclusion about an investment, household, or policy outcome.

Key points

  • Q1 FY 2026-27 covers April–June.
  • The published real GDP growth estimate is 7.8% at constant 2022-23 prices.
  • Nominal GDP at current prices is a separate measure in the same release.
  • The current-stage Q1 estimates can be revised as more comprehensive and updated source data become available.

The official Q1 estimate

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) published its Q1 GDP release on 31 August 2026. It identifies Q1 as April–June of FY 2026-27 and reports real GDP growth of 7.8% at constant 2022-23 prices.

The figure is the release’s published estimate for that quarter. It answers the narrow question of what the release reports; it does not say what a later quarter will show.

The figures behind 7.8%

The table restates the official Q1 constant-price real-GDP comparison: ₹75.46 lakh crore for Q1 FY 2025-26 and ₹81.36 lakh crore for Q1 FY 2026-27, with the release reporting 7.8% year-on-year growth. It does not forecast later growth or show a future revision.

Q1 FY 2026-27 (April–June) ₹81.36 lakh crore

Real and nominal measures

In this release, real GDP means GDP at constant prices, using 2022-23 as the base year. The release separately labels nominal GDP as GDP at current prices. These are different measures in the official record; that distinction does not, by itself, establish an inflation result, a living-cost change, or an outcome for a particular household or business.

The revision boundary

A 2 September MoSPI additional-information release says the Q1 FY 2026-27 estimates are based on information available at the current stage and can be revised as more comprehensive and updated source data become available.

That statement does not predict whether a revision will happen, its direction, or its size. The follow-up reviewed for this draft does not state a replacement real-GDP growth figure for Q1 FY 2026-27. Until an official record explicitly does so, 7.8% is the current published estimate described here.

What this release cannot answer

This release does not tell an individual whether to invest, how a household’s income or expenses have changed, or which policy caused the result. It also does not forecast later GDP growth. Those questions need evidence beyond this quarterly release.
